Operations Manager-Bentiu

World Relief (WR), an international relief and development agency with cross-sectoral programs bridging relief and development, currently seeks :

DEPARTMENT/UNIT: Bentiu Base
SUPERVISOR: Country Director
WORK LOCATION: Bentiu, South Sudan

JOB SUMMARY (Overall Purpose)
The Operations Manager oversees all the operational support within Unity State. S/he ensures the quality of support to the projects is responsible for the procurement and coordinates all travel and transport arrangements.

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Program development
o Guide program teams in mainstreaming peace building interventions in their respective activities.
o Develop proposals and oversee the implementation of peace-building projects in Unity State.
Management
o Supervises and instructs the base, camp administrators and drivers/mechanic.
o Manages budgets of camps and Bentiu base.
o Initiates and oversees operational support structures development.
Procurement
o Executes procurement and liaises with suppliers within Unity State.
o Ensures procurement is in adherence to legal, organizational and local requirements.
Travel & Transport
o Organizes and plans external and internal transport according to program and operational needs.
Security
o Acts as security officer of the region and ensures security procedures are frequently updated and adhered to.
o Liaises with UN, GoSS and other stakeholders
o Follows-up on security incidents and protective measures.
Other
o Perform other duties and tasks supervised and agreed upon by the supervisor.
o To attend and actively participate in team devotions.
o To attend staff meetings & gatherings.

Due to the nature of the responsibilities, this position requires frequent travel outside of the office environment and occasional work during weekends & public holidays.

Nationality • Sudanese • Local tribe [Nuer / Dinka / ]

QUALIFICATION / EXPERIENCE:

ESSENTIAL:
Bachelor’s degree in development or social studies.
5 years relevant experience
Previous experience in supervising senior staff (>3 pax)
Knowledge of NGO procurement procedures
Ability to write a security plan.
Able to handle multiple tasks
Ability to exercise authority while remaining calm and gentle
Reliable and dependable
Ability to keep time
English Fluently (written & spoken) Arabic - Basic (spoken)
Committed to World Relief’s statement of faith
Strong commitment to World Relief values
Enjoys working in a team.
Diplomatic and sensitive to cross cultural issues
Approachable, Open and Honest
Open minded and willingness to learn and be corrected / disciplined.
Capacity to work under pressure

DESIRABLE:
Masters degree in management studies
NGO experience in a similar position
Proposal writing experience
Policy / Report writing experience
Certificate in Budgeting course
Access to a local network of NGOs
Certificate security management course
Ability to clearly express and explain
Networker/ outgoing (ability to maintain many relationships)
Diplomat
Dinka or Nuer - Fluently (spoken)
Not afraid to be ‘the least’ and help where needed
Mature in Christian faith
Knowledge of current security threats and NGO perspectives

Computer skills
Essential:
• MS Office excel
• MS Office word.
Desired:
• MS Office Access
• MS Office Outlook
• Technical Computer knowledge
