Background on ACTED
ACTED is an independent international, private, non-partisan and non-profit organization that operates according to principles of strict neutrality, political and religious impartiality, and non discrimination.
ACTED was created in 1993 to support populations affected by the conflict in Afghanistan. Based in Paris, France, ACTED now operates in 27 countries worldwide, with over 200 international and 3000 national staff. ACTED has a 62 million € budget for over 240 projects spanning 8 sectors of intervention; including emergency relief, food security, health promotion, economic development, education & training, microfinance, local governance & institutional support, and cultural promotion.

ACTED opened its Sudan mission in 2004 to respond to the Darfur crisis. Since then, it has been implementing various infrastructure rehabilitation and water and sanitation projects, both in Darfur and in South Sudan, funded by agencies such as OFDA, CHF, and ECHO. ACTED Sudan employs approximately 7 international and about 50 national staff. ACTED’s highly qualified staff members are familiar with sensitive programming and the Sudanese context.
ACTED Sudan continues to be active in Darfur, primarily in the Zalingei IDP camps and surrounding areas in West Darfur. ACTED works out of a coordination office in Geneina, and a field base in Zalingei. ACTED employs a team of 2 international staff and 40 national staff total in Geneina and Zalingei. ACTED’s projects in Darfur have focused on water and sanitation, hygiene promotion, and basic infrastructure. ACTED’s current projects in the region are supported by OFDA and UNICEF.
In South Sudan, ACTED has an operational office in Wau, a sub-base in Raga, and a coordination office in Juba. It has specific expertise in food security and agricultural livelihoods interventions, as well as road rehabilitation and WASH programming. ACTED’s current project in the South are supported by OFDA, the World Bank, CDC, WFP, and CIDA.
Position profile
The Reporting Intern ensures the production of timely reports for the Reporting Manager as well as the Country Director. He/she assists the Reporting Manager and the Country Director in developing internal and external country communication strategies.
Under the supervision of the Reporting Manager, the reporting intern will:
- Collect and synthesize data from the field, and draft reports in cooperation with project management, finance, monitoring and evaluation, and other field coordination departments
- Assist the Reporting Manager in developing project proposals, addressing ad hoc donor requests or catalysing action on specific projects or components of projects
- Liaise with external partners and represent ACTED in coordination and information meetings with NGOs, donors, and other humanitarian actors.
Qualifications
- Postgraduate diploma in Journalism, International Relations or a relevant field
- Advanced proficiency in written and spoken English (French in a francophone post/Spanish in a Central American post)
- Excellent writing and communication skills
- Ability to work efficiently under pressure
Conditions
Field Intern benefits include: a 300 USD per month living allowance, coverage of all accommodation, food, and travel costs, a luggage allowance of 50 kg., and the provision of medical, repatriation, and life insurance.
